Disclaimer: This section is not meant to condemn all mechanics, just the dishonest ones. The most important way to avoid problems is to find a good mechanic and stick with him or her. Check out our tips on how to find a good mechanic. Always insist on seeing all parts which have been replaced. This will allow you to make sure it was bad and avoid unnecessary work. Even if you can not determine if the part is bad, the mechanic does not know that. The tire scam: Usually advertised as $99.00 or so for a full set of tires. Do you ever leave the store with the advertised tires for that price? Not very often. Salesman will make you feel guilty for placing the safety of your family in a cheap set of tires. Also the great price is often for odd sizes or smaller sizes which will not fit your vehicle. This is classic bait and switch so beware. One thing to remember when shopping for tires is that there are only a few actual manufacturers of tires in the world. Most chain stores have their own brand which is actually made by one of the big tire manufacturers. The $59.99 complete brake job: See the tire scam. Same pitch and guilt trip.
